About Racing Research

Racing Research Ratings

The CRF system employs numerous algorithms. Some of these algorithms replicate all the worthwhile techniques used by manual handicappers. However, unlike manual handicappers who are severely handicapped by the speed and memory limitations of the human brain, the system is able to compute completely, throughout the entire results database, the effect of all the possible collateral form considerations. This alone gives the CRF system a huge advantage over any manual handicapper.

The CRF system also incorporates the most sophisticated race times analysis techniques. There are significant differences between our methodology in this area and the methods used by any other racing publisher - in Britain or anywhere else in the racing world. The production of jockey ratings is another unique feature of the CRF system.

Since its inception, the CRF system has been constantly developed and refined, primarily by the addition of more sensitive and sophisticated algorithms. Consequently, the quality of the CRF form and time ratings rises year by year - this sort of progressive improvement is unique to Racing Research. (With manual handicapping and timefigure compilation, the option doesn't exist.)

The CRF system is today a very sophisticated process indeed, the most innovative and advanced in the racing world.

Racing Research publications are intended for the serious backer. Judging by the composition of our list of subscribers, they succeed in this intention.

For those who require more explanation and background, we have a booklet containing some pieces published in past annuals. Anyone who would like a free copy of this should ring 0870 120 1230, email info@racingresearch.co.uk or write to us at Racing Research, 3 Swinhoe Road, Beadnell, Chathill, Northumberland, NE67 5AG.

RACING RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS

Overnight form guides ('Daily Printouts') are available by email or as downloads. All other publications are sent by first-class post.

The following is a brief summary of Racing Research publications - full explanations are included in the publications.

ANNUALS

The Flat annual, Computer Racing Form, is published in February. The National Hunt annual, Computer Chasing Form, is published in August. For every runner in the previous twelve months, the complete form for the past THREE years is given in the standard CRF format. Up-to-date jockey ratings are also included. The Flat annual also contains up-to-date draw analyses. Both annuals are casebound.

FORMDATA

The most modern weekly form books of all. There are two separate editions Flat and National Hunt, posted first-class every Monday. The layout is in the standard CRF style. In addition, alongside each horse is printed the current form of its stable, based on the relative form of the stable's recent runners. The form goes back twelve months from the previous Sunday.

One feature which makes the book easier to use is that ratings and timefigures already include current weight-for-age. So there is no need to use a weight-for-age table to calculate race ratings.

In the Flat Turf season, the Flat edition also contains a short supplement covering recent National Hunt form. In the winter, the National Hunt edition carries a supplement covering six months' form for the Flat AW runners.

PRINTOUTS

PRINTOUTS are the most comprehensive and sophisticated race cards available to the serious backer. For each horse the complete form printout for both current season and previous season is included. Form ratings and timefigures are already adjusted to the weight to be carried. Alongside each horse is printed the current form of its stable and the stable's past record at the track. The stable's track record is assessed in the same manner as its current form, by evaluating the relative form shown by its runners there.

DAILY PRINTOUTS are published for all individual meetings. They are available at the 4-day weights stage, by post, and at the overnight stage by email or as downloads.

For Saturday's racing there is an additional publication, the SATURDAY PRINTOUT. On Saturdays with three or fewer meetings, every race will be included in the SATURDAY PRINTOUT. When there are four or more meetings, twenty or so races will be covered, including all those televised by the BBC and Channel 4.

THE FORMAT OF RACING RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS

The example below, taken from the 2004 edition of Computer Racing Form, illustrates the standard CRF format used for all horses.

The quality of the CRF form and time ratings make this into a uniquely precise and full picture of the horse's capabilities and characteristics.
